There are places in this world that seem unreal because they do not quite fit with modern life. They are suspended in time and evoke a longing for something that once was, and still fights to remain. Marburg is one of these places. Lost in the state of Hessen, Germany, about an hour away from Frankfurt, this small medieval town once welcomed the Grimm brothers, who attended the university in 1802. As a result, the iconic medieval castle and its surroundings eventually served as an inspiration for some of the brothers’ famous fairytales. So while some may say Marburg seems out of a fairytale, it actually is the other way around.
